It is great to have a full weekend in Bologna, arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday night. You don’t need to take a leave from work and you can still enjoy the weekend to the maximum. However, this brings some troubles, too, especially if you are travelling with a child – talking about accommodation. Therefore, it was a big challenge for us to find a suitable place willing to welcome us at 11 pm and leave us stay until 6 pm on the day of departure. Many guesthouses and small family hotels in the city centre declined our request for late check-in.

Finally, we were lucky to find the perfect place – hotel Savhotel Bologna. It is located in Fiera district, outside the city centre but not far at all. It is probably 2 km from the train station in Bologna and 3 km from the city centre. The location is very good, because the centre is reachable by 10-minute bus ride and the area around the hotel is very calm and safe. If you are enthusiastic, you could even go walking for under 1 hour.
As first-timers in Bologna, we were a bit afraid and curious what to expect from the urban zones outside the touristic part. But just minutes later we were proud with our choice.

Wonderful Savhotel
Hotel Savhotel is a 4-star accommodation, offering everything needed for a perfect stay. The girl on the reception kindly welcomed us and our late arrival was not a problem at all. Moreover, we were nicely surprised to receive welcome drink vouchers and started our exploration on a glass of wine in the comfortable lounge bar.
The rooms and hotel facilities did not disappoints us either. Wide rooms, extremely clean, wonderful bathroom with amenities and a baby cot waiting for our daughter Anna. Although this might sound as a standard for every hotel room, we have been to many hotels where the lack of something could ruin your holiday. Luckily, Savhotel was perfect.
[info]Some more info: The water from the tap is drinkable but we were allowed to drink the water from the minibar free. In some packages, the minibar is included in the price and you can use it without supplemental charge.[/info]
Richest breakfast ever
We loved the hotel even more in the morning, when we entered the restaurant and were met with wonderful Italian cappuccino. Amazed by the huge diversity of foods, including traditional, healthy, vegan and gluten-free options, we did not know where to start. Finally, we could not resist the croissants, the fruit salad and the home-made cakes that made us feel home. It will be completely true if I say that this was one of the richest hotel breakfasts we have ever seen.
After our great stay we didn’t want to leave and actually left at the last possible moment. They were so kind to let us stay until 6 pm, because our flight was in the late evening and little Anna had to sleep in the afternoon.
How to get to Savhotel
The best way to reach hotel Savhotel from the airport is Taxi – around 18 euro. From the hotel to the city centre you can go by bus 25. The ride takes about 10 minutes. Tickets are bought from newspaper kiosks and Tabacchi shops – the price is 1,3 euro for a single ticket (valid for 75 minutes). A 24-hour ticket can be bought from the Tabacchi shops for 5 euro. Savhotel proved a perfect place to stay in Bologna both for couples and families with kids. With its quiet but convenient location and high-end facilities (including also free fitness and panoramic rooftop terrace), we would recommend it to anyone willing a quality holiday in Bologna.
Prices at Savhotel
Savhotel Bologna is a 4-star hotel with relevant prices for its category but great deals could be found if you book in advance. For example, if you look 1 month in advance, you could book a double room for 70-80 euro a night which is a perfect price in Bologna. When looking for a hotel in Bologna, note that it is a relatively expensive city and there are not many good budget places to stay, especially in the central area. Travelling with kid, a hostel or a simple hotel with tiny rooms on a noisy street was definitely not an option for us.Booking.com
Our stay at Savhotel was provided complimentary but all opinions are as always our own. Before being invited to review it, we were considering staying there as regular tourists.
